Attendance
ATTENDANCE POLICY
The School Education Act 1999 and the School Education Regulations 2000 provide the legal framework for attendance at all public schools.
To provide every opportunity for students to learn and maximise their future opportunities, children of school age are required by law to attend school.
For Kindergarten children the hours of attendance at school are as follows for 2019:
Group A: Odd weeks Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Even weeks Monday and Tuesday
Group B: Odd weeks Thursday and Friday
Even weeks Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Staff members are responsible for communicating with parents where a student’s parent/carer has not provided any reason – or has provided insufficient reason – for any absence from school.
Being at school every day is important (unless a student is genuinely too unwell to attend). Family holidays during term time are potentially disruptive to students’ learning and progress and have a bigger impact on some students than on others.
PUNCTUALITY
The school day begins at 8.30am (primary) 8.45am (secondary) and ends at 3.00pm.
Being on time to school and on time to each class during the day is very important to school tone and morale. Lateness is disruptive to the learning and teaching program.
If a student arrives later than the normal commencement time they should report to the Learning Support Reception counter so we know they have arrived.
SICKNESS/ACCIDENT
If a student needs to leave school due to illness or an accident at school the parent will be contacted by school staff and arrangements made for the child to be collected. For this reason we need all emergency contact information to be correct and updated as soon as it changes. Serious medical matters must be communicated to the school staff to ensure we are able to manage and monitor students. Where students need to take medication parents are requested to make contact with us so this can be supported.
Students should not attend school if they are sick.
MOVEMENT TO AND FROM COLLEGE GROUNDS
Students are not permitted to leave the grounds without permission of a member of the Learning Support Team. Where a student needs to leave during the school day for an appointment or a similar legitimate reason they are required to bring a note to the Learning Support Reception and they will receive a printed leave pass. We have an electronic attendance system.
All communication with parents should be made through the reception staff.
